As recent events now remind us, it is important to celebrate, uplift, and defend the lives of Black men, women, and children, not just here in the United States but all over the world. Not to say that other races don’t have their fair share of hardship, but when you live in a world where dark skin is treated like a crime and monstrosity in the eyes of others, even when it has been proven time and again that dark skinned people birthed many great civilizations and nations, it feels as though the odds are against us in terms of being able to pursue a life of good health, wealth, and well-being.
The Black Lives Matter movement mainly addresses the issues of police brutality against Black people, our death and discrimination, and it’s a wonderful movement to support if we want to call attention to these issues and end them yet we also need to address other problems in our community in order to uplift our people and enhance their lives. That’s part of the reason why I’m glad you found this blog. Our health is an important issue, especially living in a world where bacteria and viruses are getting stronger, and even hospitals can be hotbeds of disease.
That is why gardening is important for us. One of the ways where we can take control over our health, is to control what goes into our bodies and stop trusting the food administration of a government that has historically abused us. I’m sorry to say that I personally don’t know the condition of Black people in countries other than this one, but if it is anything like here in the U.S., through commercials and advertisements, we are encouraged to eat way too much processed, degenerate, and genetically modified foods. If Black lives really and truly matter (which they do) then we as a whole need to find ways to stop eating Frankenfood and get more fresh, healthy, living foods into our bodies. It may take longer, but Frankenfoods kill Black people just as much as all the racists with guns.
Sure, we all love soda, cookies, and cake but let’s face it…we have to eat to live, not live to eat. Growing food for ourselves and our communities is one of the ways to help each other not to self-destruct while others continue to try to destroy us. And whether you have a big backyard, a tiny apartment balcony, or just a little pot by your kitchen window, you can still grow natural foods that will not only taste good, but also improve your health exponentially.
